Ramadam Kareem

Ramadan started on Thursday 18th June and is the holiest month of the year for Muslims, across the world, who fast from dawn to sunset. It is also the month when most will give generously to charity

The Charity Appeal

The Abaseen Foundation is a pioneering charity working to improve the lives of people in one of the poorest and most deprived areas of Khyber Pakhtunhwa, north west Pakistan. Natural disasters like floods and earthquakes, and the man-made disaster of global terrorism, have resulted in this being one of the world's most destitute and dangerous areas and the Abaseen Foundation aims to relieve this as much as possible through offering education and health services.

The area of Shamshatoo, close to the City of Peshawar, capital city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in North West Pakistan, is centuries behind the rest of the world in all aspects of social progress. This is particularly the case in the area of education, where the literacy rate for girls is around 3%. This is the dual result of there being a significant number of Afghan refugees in the area, many of whom were displaced during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, and a legacy of hard line fundamentalism which has influenced social and educational policy here for many years. The result today is poor life expectancy and minimal job prospects, particularly for girls and women.

The Abaseen Foundation runs schools, for boys and girls who are children of Brick Kiln workers, since 2009. These schools also cater to the population of Shamshatoo, Peshawar, displaced tribal families and others from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
