Nurturing Future Innovators: Abaseen Foundation Launches New Degree College

Update: 31/10/23

Admissions are now open for Abaseen Foundation Degree College, which is affiliated with KPK's leading university, Banazir Bhooto Shahid Woman University, and is accredited with the Higher Education Regularity.

Those with a 50% score on their intermediate examination can apply online until November 15, 2023.

We are thrilled to announce a significant milestone in the journey of the Abaseen Foundation – the launch of the Abaseen Foundation Degree College (AFDC).

On Sunday the 15th of October, a ceremony at the college's new premises within Mian Gul Model School for Girls marked the beginning of a new chapter. AFDC was officially inaugurated by esteemed Abaseen Foundation representatives Brigadier Gulman Afridi, Founder Chairman, Mr. Obaid Ullah, Chairman, and Dr. Mukhtiar Zaman, Chief Executive Officer. The ceremony featured the unveiling of the college's insignia, and the powerful slogan that encapsulates the college’s mission: "Nurturing Future Innovators."

The atmosphere was jubilant, and to mark the special occasion, educators, students, and parents were invited to come together and cut a cake specially crafted for AFDC's inauguration.

While the ceremony was a celebration in its own right, it was also a platform for the principals of Abaseen Foundation schools to provide important updates. The charity currently operates three schools in northern Pakistan, serving a catchment area that includes the outskirts of Peshawar and parts of Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas. These schools are instrumental in providing quality education to over 1,500 students.

This new degree college represents a natural evolution of the Foundation’s educational offering. It has been meticulously developed to meet the needs of the community, and especially for the girls who possess the academic aptitude and a desire for higher education but face various challenges in leaving their homes. We are dedicated to empowering these young women, demonstrating what's possible, and fostering an environment where "Nurturing Future Innovators" becomes a reality.

This new degree college will allow students completing their A-levels at the Mian Gul Model School for Girls to continue their education locally — an opportunity that was previously non-existent. We have partnered with the Women’s University in Peshawar as the academic awarding body, opening doors to higher education for countless young women.

Initially, AFDC has been registered by the Higher Education Regulatory Authority, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to offer three different degree courses. These are a Bachelor of Studies in English (BS English), Bachelor of Studies in Computer Science (BS Computer Science), and a Bachelor of Education (B. Ed) respectively. The BS English desgree will be the first to be rolled out, and as interest grows and more students benefit from this opportunity, AFDC aims to expand its range of courses.

This venture is of immense significance in a region where the education of women is often undervalued – literacy rates for girls within the Foundation’s catchment area stands at less than 3%. As a charity, we are working to advance an attitude within our communities that values education as a means to break the cycle of poverty, steadfast in our belief that, "If we educate a girl, we educate a mother and a whole family."

The launch of AFDC signifies a brighter, more promising future for the young women of Pakistan’s KP province, and is a testament to our relentless commitment to empower through education.
