Community Support

The area where AF is operating is very backward and inhabited by the marginalised people who either work in low paid daily wage jobs or are unemployed. Most of the families migrated into the area due to different calamities including wars, terrorism or economic reasons. There are a number of families who do not own a house or any land and live as tenant of people with means.

AF has launched a modest scheme of finding a small piece of land which can accommodate 8-9 families. AF purchased a piece of land that’s 71 marlas (19,000 square foot) between Shamshatoo and Baghbanan from the local land owners for 7,000 GBP.

The land was further divided into 9 plots of 30 x 48 feet (approx. 5 marla) and a path of 12 x 460 for access as common area. Each plot will be a corner plot with a sidewalk of 4 feet between the houses. The 1st plot on the road side will be kept as common place and will have a water supply, praying area and a place for social gathering.

People in need will approach the AF for consideration and the committee will decide about allotment. There are currently 7 applicants and a decision will be made soon.

Additionally, we will need funds for the development of common places, water supply, sewerage system and path development.

The strategic objectives for the low-cost housing for the poor homeless project are:

  1. Continue to fundraise for the funds necessary to build the houses

  2. Consider expanding this project

  3. Allocate the houses

  4. Develop the communal areas

  5. Manage this as a core project in the future.

The criteria for allocating the plot is as follows:

  • They reside in the area

  • They do not own a house

  • They don’t own any land where a house could be built

  • And they deserve Zakat

Orphan Scheme

This scheme was set up in memory of Fawziyah Javed in 2023, and aims to provide support for orphans within host families working on the Brick Kilns in Baghbanan and in the Shamshatoo area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

When children in Pakistan are orphaned, siblings are typically adopted together. Hence, adoptive families usually open their doors to more than one child. This scheme aims to ensure that orphans are not a financial burden to adoptive families.

Orphaned children are some of the most vulnerable people we support through our projects. This scheme is vital for ensuring children and families can live with dignity.

The strategic objectives of the orphan scheme are:

  1. Raise funds to support orphans through the following means:

    • Family support – provide basic essential food items for the whole family e.g. flour, tea, rice, sugar, cooking oil, salt, soap, washing powder, tooth paste and safety matches.

    • Individual orphan support – provide school fees, transport costs, uniform including shoes, books, birthday gifts, Eid clothes, stationary, and daily spending money.

    • Ad hoc expenditure – e.g. medical fees and medicines.

  2. There may be more than one orphan per family as siblings are generally adopted together. The adopting family will receive 1 family pack of food and each child will receive the benefits described in 1. above.

  3. Each orphan may enter the scheme at any age up to 18, and be guaranteed support until they are 18 years old.
