Celebrating Our Achievements in 2023

As the dust settles following our amazing Annual Gala, we wanted to extend our deepest gratitude for your backing in 2023. The Abaseen Foundation's remarkable successes this year have only been made possible because of your generous support. Here’s what we've accomplished together:

Free School Meals

In 2023, we provided 500 children at Abaseen Foundation’s Noor Model School with a hot meal every school day. That adds up to a staggering 130,000 meals in a single year! Good nutrition is the bedrock of cognitive development in children, and we’re proud to impart that, this year, two orphans from the school ranked in the top 5% of the highest exam results in the whole of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

Orphan Project, ‘From Tears to Smiles’

Our orphan project began in earnest, providing crucial support to orphans living within host families working on the Brick Kilns in Baghbanan and the Shamshatoo area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. This scheme was set up in memory of Fawziyah Javed, who was tragically murdered along with her unborn child in 2021. Following a request and financial support from Fawziyah’s family, this initiative initially provided for 30 orphans, and now proudly supports 65, with the intent to help more as the need arises.

Orphaned children are among the most vulnerable individuals we support. This scheme aims to ensure that these children are not a financial burden to adoptive families. It provides basic essential food items like flour, rice, and oil for the whole family, while also covering school fees and other ad-hoc expenses for each orphan. The scheme is vital for ensuring that children and families can live with dignity.

Wellbeing of Women (WoW) Project

In 2023, we intensified our efforts to combat period poverty through our Wellbeing of Women (WoW) project. Menstrual hygiene is a pressing issue in rural Pakistan, where access to sanitary products and proper hygiene facilities are often limited. As a result, girls miss an average of 4-5 days of school each month, significantly impacting their educational progress.

The WoW project provides menstrual hygiene training for girls in Abaseen Foundation schools and the distribution of reusable sanitary pads within the community. Each sanitary pack distributed by Abaseen Foundation contains five pads, designed to last a woman or girl for up to five years. We are immensely proud to have partnered with the Pachamama Project, a charity that provides period pads to refugees worldwide, to deliver this vital project.

Abaseen Foundation Degree College

In October, we launched of the Abaseen Foundation Degree College (AFDC) – a monumental step forward in our education programmes. This new degree college will allow students completing their A-levels at the Mian Gul Model School for Girls to continue their education locally — an opportunity that was previously non-existent. We have partnered with KP's leading university, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University in Peshawar, as the academic awarding body, opening doors to higher education for countless young women.

This venture is of immense significance in a region where the education of women is often undervalued, with literacy rates for girls within the Foundation’s catchment area standing at less than 3%. As a charity, we are working hard to advance an attitude within our communities that values education as a means to break the cycle of poverty. We firmly believe that, "If we educate a girl, we educate a mother and a whole family."

Ongoing Flood Relief

Our commitment to supporting the communities affected by the floods in Swat Valley remain firm. In collaboration with our partners at Rehman Medical Institute / Rehman Medical College, we conducted a medical camp in Gabral as part of ongoing rehabilitation efforts following the devastating floods of the previous year. We provided medical care to more than 1500 patients, delivering appropriate medication and treatment to those in need.

Now, as we look ahead to 2024, we invite you to join us in making a difference in the lives of Pakistan’s most disadvantaged communities. Your contributions have been the cornerstone of our achievements, and with your continued support, we aim to achieve even more in the coming year.

Help us make a difference by Donating Today, or consider setting up a monthly donation to ensure our sustained impact.
