Report: Abaseen cable car connects flood-impacted communities

HUM TV, a national and international Pakistani TV channel, have featured our chairlift/cable car in one of their reports.

The report is in Urdu but a translation summary of the report can be found below. Please do watch the video to see the impact of the project on the local communities.

Summary of the News Report:

The Newscaster starts with the devastating affects of the flood in the Upper Swat area, where damage to roads and bridges has caused misery to the locals — some areas are cut off from others, but work has started to reconnect the areas that remain isolated.

The report cuts to reporter Shareenzada, who is broadcasting live in Bahrain, Pakistan, from a location overlooking the Swat River.

The reporter Shareenzada talks about the devastating flood. He states that relief work has started including food distribution, construction work and a medical camp.

He then introduces Mukhtiar and mentions the fantastic work of the Abaseen Foundation in providing a chair lift/cable car to the villages.

Mukhtiar starts by saying that volunteers from the Abaseen Foundation came from Mingora to Bahrain and consulted the local community on their needs. The community elders highlighted damage to the bridge crossing the Swat as a key issue. This had caused disruption to the education of local children and had impacted on health care, as people were unable to reach these facilities without the bridge.

Mukhtiar states that work started on 3rd September to install a motorised chair lift, and within two weeks the work had been completed, with more than five villages benefitting from the new facility. He then states that Abaseen Foundation will continue to support the people in the area.

The report closes by showing the damage to area and reminding us of the wonderful work of the Abaseen Foundation.
