Health Services

The Abaseen Foundation from its beginning has engaged in the delivery of health services in the Peshawar region, especially where our schools are located. Health care in this area is badly needed and is not provided by the state. AF has been trusted with major grants from many large donors including the UK Department for International Development (DfID), The Wellcome Trust, UNICEF, and US Aid.

Our major projects in this area include:

  • overseeing the turnaround of a failing hospital (Nahaqi Hospital, Peshawar)

  • the establishment of a successful Health Centre next door to our Noor Model School (Baghbanan Health Centre)

  • a new project called Wellness of Women (WoW) which concentrates on improving women’s health in general, with an emphasis on practical help for teenage women and young mothers.

The health projects are run through Health Centre Baghbanan (BN HC), established in 2010 in response to the needs of the area. The catchment population of the health centres is around 200,000 and spread over 20 Km radius area of Baghbanan and Hasan Khel Subdivision. The health outlets provide a range of services including curative, diagnostic and preventative care through well qualified and trained staff from 8 AM to 2 PM five days a week.

The service mainly depends of grants as the users charges are minimal and the cost recovery is negligible because of the poverty in the area. There is steady increase in the activity of HC Baghbanan as the area does not have much health infrastructure and the need for improved and extended services is growing.
